Kenya Mission

Honduras Mission

The Honduras Mission Team is a group of Christians who have been called to the ministry of mission work. The chairpersons of this group are Missi and Shawn Findley.

Called to Honduras

The mission team is called by God to travel to the country of Honduras. They work in remote villages to feed the poor, help build blockhouses, repair schools and roads, construct water systems to bring water to remote areas, lend a listening ear and bring happiness, hope, and lots of love to the people of Honduras.

How can you assist the mission?

  • Help to raise money by volunteering to park cars at Purdue home football games or basketball games
  • Volunteer in other fundraising events
  • Provide your prayers and support for the mission work

Fun reasons to join the Honduras Mission Team

  1. I want to look really cool wearing an orange vest AND gold/black hat or visor!
  2. I want to feel the thrill of being in control of parking cars!
  3. I want to be with Missi and Brittany at their gate, so I can receive delicious food provided by the tailgaters!!
  4. I want to ride with Shawn in the golf cart and look important!
  5. I want to just have fun getting to know our church family and enjoying fellowship.

Kenya Mission

In May 2007, a group of eleven people from First Christian Church and Bethany Presbyterian Church spent two weeks in Kenya on a mission trip. The trip was based around Nairobi, the capital city of several million people, but traveled extensively throughout southwestern Kenya. We all have many vivid memories of our mission trip to Kenya, and will always remember the warmth of the people, the faces of the children (smiling and obviously cared for in difficult times), and the beautiful scenery especially on a safari trip when it is dotted with wild game animals (giraffes, elephants, zebras, lions, to name a few).  A short video that summarizes our trip experience is found on the bottom of this page.

gm_roundlogo_color.jpgThis mission trip was a partnership with Global Ministries.  First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is associated with international church partners like the Presbyterian Churches of East Africa (PCEA) through Global Ministries.

We did some work on a project to paint a parsonage in Kambui, but the majority of our trip was spent as ambassadors from our churches in Lafayette, Indiana, USA to many PCEA churches (Presbyterian Churches of East Africa). As ambassadors, we observed the good works being conducted by many churches and brought home a list of possible projects that could use support.

We remember the work of the many people in the churches to improve their lives and those around them. They face very difficult problems: health problems (including AIDS and malaria), hunger, poverty, education, and the resulting issues of orphans, crime, and safety. Many of the leaders of the PCEA and especially the Woman’s Guild members that we met were very intelligent and have the initiative to take on these difficult issues. They are resourceful, determined and hard working as they find clever solutions to these very complex problems. These women are obviously faith-filled as they are putting the message of Christ into action to help those who have needs. We saw many of the haves helping those that have less, and many of those who have little helping those who have even less.

A listing of the various projects is presented in the table below. If anyone is interested in assisting on any of these projects please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  and we can provide further details.  Any donations that are received in our Church Office are sent to Kenya through the Global Ministries program as designated gifts of which 100% goes to the specific project.
